Kookeet fair Bruges - 26/09 - 28/09

I always find it hard to write about Belgian/Dutch things to an international public in English, but I just HAVE to tell you about the Kookeet fair.

A very good friend (and best friend's boyfriend) of mine is student at the Ter Duinen school for hotel and catering in Koksijde and just a good food-lover in general. No shock to tell you he was super excited about this fair in Bruges, Kookeet, that was going on this weekend, featuring a bunch of top chefs and upcoming restaurants. Since I'm a food and cooking lover myself, we decided to pay a visit on a sunny Saturday.

I was immediately super happy when I arrived just because of the smell of well-grilled meat. All around us were stands from high-class restaurants who all presented one dish. So hard to decide which meals I would try! Eventually I started off with a dish from Bonte B.

"ARANCINO PORK CHEEK, CELERIAC ESPUMA, CRUMBLE OF SOURDOUGH AND PANCETTA,
 PORCINE MUSHROOM JUS"

I can not get over the taste of the porcine mushroom jus. It was seriously soooo good. The meat was delicious as well and the flavours of the full plate just suited so well.
Next I decided to go for the presented dish by 't Zwaantje.

"SCALLOP, BLACK PUDDING,
CELERY, MUSHROOMS"

I'm a big sucker for scallops, you can really make me very happy by serving me those. I first was a little afraid that I wouldn't like black pudding, because it has quite the reputation to be the kind of food most people don't like to eat. My chef-cook friend convinced me to try the meal anyway and I was very positively surprised about how much I liked the black pudding.
Of course, I wouldn't be able to leave without tasting the dish by Hof Van Cleve, a very well known 3-star-restaurant.

"7-BONE STEAK WITH BASIL,
MUSHROOM AND VIN JAUNE"

Best. Meat. I. Ever. Tasted. And a crazy good sauce which I guess was the vin jaune. I know, I ate mushrooms in every dish. But I'm just a big mushroom-lover too. I'm really happy I went for this dish because not only I've tasted a 3-star-restaurant meal, but I've also had a 'culinary orgasm' melting the meat in my mouth!
And oh yes, if you know me well, you know I can't leave without having dessert. I went for the dessert by Pastry Academie.

"DAME BLANCHE THE BRUGES WAY: 2 VARIANTS OF VANILLA ICE CREAM, CHOCOLATE BRUGES RUSKS, BRUGES GINGERSNAPS AND ESPUMA OF MANJARI VALRHONA CHOCOLATE"

I didn't know there could be two variants of vanilla ice cream. Yet there were. Delicious dessert, great chocolate, and very suitable in the Bruges atmosphere!

My friends had some other dishes as well, but you can find them all at http://www.kookeet.be/#2015, just click on the British flag in the right corner to change the language!

You can still visit the Kookeet fair today (27/09) and tomorrow (28/09).

Do you like these kind of fairs? Would you visit it?
