Trendspotting (guest post)

[ Guest post by Anneleen Viaene ]

Once in a while, my school schedule allows me to browse shops before I hop on the bus home. This Monday I arrived when the new collections had arrived as well. As I took a glimpse at the new clothes, I started to spot a lot of trends in the S/S collections.

The first one was a casual look with denim blouses, a denim jacket or a suede jacket. The colours that are most represented are light beige and a light brownish colour (as in the picture), but I scored a cute and really soft, suede cardigan in a dark red colour (only €29,99 at Pimkie). If you want to go a bit bohemian, look for a suede vest with a fringe!

Another trend that was popular when I was younger has made its way to the top again: the dungarees. It’s all about the black ones this season, but if you want to wear them in the warm weather as well -still hoping that spring will set in soon- you can go for some short denim ones. If it’s still really cold, you can combine the dungarees with a warm sweater – turtleneck or not. If the weather is in your favour, a crop top is hot right now or you can even combine trends and opt for a denim blouse. Always a winner is when you add some stripes to the sweater or shirt that you wear underneath the dungarees!

Next, a trend that you could spot at the S/S fashion shows around the world: lots of layers. Due to the still chilly weather, layering your outfit is key to be fashionable this season and it comes in handy as well since you are all set for the weather to change during the day. Wearing a blouse under a sweater and adding a thin coat are perfect. I prefer some new colours for the coats; during Winter it was all about the camel coat, now I would choose a pastel pink or army green one. Even designer Ermanno Scervino used these two colours for the coats in his Spring 2016 collection and they are fabulous!

In the end it is all about combining trends. You don’t have to stick to a combination of trends you see during fashion week or in the shops. Take an item and see for yourself which combination suits you best. Who knows, maybe your perfect combo is the jeans blouse with dungarees or a crop top with a long coat - if you love bridging. Be yourself and who knows you end up as a trendsetter.
