Receiving timeless elegance in your make-up look

It’s an adjective that I love: timeless. Hearing it makes me dream about Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and more contemporary icons like Kate Moss and Michelle Obama. It’s what I strive for in my wardrobe (although I have a lot of work on that part), but also in my make-up looks. That’s the exact reason why I’m not a fan of Instagram brows, hot pink lips and purple eyeshadow, to give you a few examples. Let me share with you my guide on how to get that enviable timeless elegance on your face as well.

GOOD SKIN IS HALF THE WORK DONE

"Drinking enough water and eating healthy is one. Having a fixed morning and evening skin care routine is two."

It is so much easier to have a flawless, effortless-looking make-up look if your skin is in good condition. I know this isn’t a choice for many women, but there are a few things you can do to give you that extra boost. Drinking enough water and eating healthy is one. Having a fixed morning and evening skin care routine is two. Don’t go too far in how many products you use on your skin if you’re not used to it: just go for cleanser and moisturizer in the morning and a good make-up remover, cleanser and serum at night. Have a little scrub and/or mask session twice a week for an extra pamper.

KNOW YOUR SHADE

"Choose well in line with your skin tone and warmth."

There’s nothing less elegant than a girl who’s wearing the wrong shade of foundation. Go to a good store and ask a skilled person for advice if you have a hard time choosing what to go for. And even then, check it yourself too, because not every shoplady is as skilled and trustworthy. On top, this doesn’t only go for foundation. Concealer, bronzer, blush, brow products, … should all be chosen well in line with your skin tone and warmth.

INVEST IN YOUR BASE PACK

"It just simply is much better to have one that is absolutely perfect than three that are just moderate."

Quality over quantity, in anything. It’s my mission statement for Rusty Revolvers and the words I live by. And this is so important in cosmetics as well. I buy budget brands too, but not for their price. If I like something, whether it’s Maybelline or NARS, it’s an investment for me because I see me use it a lot and long term. I think a lot about what I buy and I’m not ashamed to invest in a more expensive highlighter because it just simply is much better to have one that is absolutely perfect than three that are just moderate.

LESS IS MORE

"Foundation should let the natural glow of your skin shine through."
This leans on the previous statement, but now I’m not talking about your beauty collection: I’m alking about your face. Foundation should let the natural glow of your skin shine through, contour should accentuate what is already there and there is no better lip shade to look timelessly elegant than a good nude (or the right red, depending on the occasion). And no, I will never judge anyone who enjoys putting a hell lot of make-up on their face. If you like it and if it looks good, thumbs up for you. But if you’re looking for an effortlessly chic look, overdoing it is not the right way.

GET YOURSELF A SIGNATURE SCENT

"A perfume usually stays in my life for two or three years, or just untill I fall in love with another one."

The thing I love the most, is to smell good. It literally makes me so happy when I hug someone and they complement me on how amazing my fragrance is. And I also like to stick with my scent once I have found the right one. A perfume usually stays in my life for two to three years, or just until I fall in love with another one. I love having this signature scent, which is preferably warm and a bit exotic for me, with my high skin temperature making it unique and 100% me.
