Christmas gift guides

Christmas in our family is a tradition full of gift-giving. We thoroughly enjoy both giving and receiving gifts and every year I find it a pleasant challenge to find the right thing for everyone. There are so many beautiful things you can give and so I decided to post a gift guide for beauty, interior and the hardest one... the men.

For the beauty lover

If you’re not really into the beauty world yourself, it can be quite challenging to find the right gift for a beauty lover. Let me start by saying this: as a beauty lover myself, I really enjoy receiving gift vouchers from places like Planet Parfum, MAC and Skins because there’s always something to find there. But if you want to be more personal and really give a little gift, I recommend you to go for something that’s universally loved. Look for cult favourites like Hourglass blushes, Diptyque candles and Jo Malone fragrances. I think the By Terry Baume de Rose lip treatment is lovely to give because it’s a little pricey for a lip balm but reasonable for a gift, just like their new Compact Expert Dual Powders that work as highlighters and blushers. Finally, the new Chanel Crème de Mains is a beautifully packaged gift and everyone loves a good hand cream, and you can never do wrong with bath salts and soaps (if the person has a bath, that is).

For the interior aficionado

We all have that one friend or family member who’s keen on everything that has to do with their home and making it look extra good. In my opinion a home lover is always happy with a scented candle and if you want gift them a special one I’d recommend you to opt for an XL Diptyque candle (that can be used outdoors as well) or anything Tom Dixon because those are not only heavenly scented but also a real pleasure for the eye. Tom Dixon also has other nice interior bits like vases and candle holders so check that out if your receiver is into little design pieces. A coffee table book is also a nice catch for an interior lover. Photography books always do good and I think black & white ones are the easiest to fit into everyone’s interior. Kate Moss by Peter Lindbergh is a good example. Apart from those ideas, fragrance sticks are a nice idea and I think Rituals do really nice ones for reasonable prices. Soft or fluffy throws are also always welcome, even if they don’t fit in the interior they’re still very useful. And next to that I’d advise you to look for little things that can look good in any interior like marble trays and cute jewellery storage items.

For men

Oh lord, gift giving for the male. Whether it’s your boyfriend, your dad, your brother or a good friend, finding the right gift for a man is hard because it’s almost impossible to look into their heads. Out of experience, I’ve found that my boyfriend is the happiest with a practical and durable gift, so start by thinking about what they might need. For instance, my boyfriend recently bought a fancy, durable razor but he doesn’t have a good shaving brush or shaving cream so that’s a possible gift for under the Christmas tree. I find that Dr. Harris do really nice and qualitative shaving kits of all price ranges. Next to that I think any skin care or body products are welcomed by men. I’ve worked in a skin care store and I can assure you that men care a lot more about cleansers and scrubs than they might seem to, the only problem is that they have no idea what to buy. I think that both Clinique and Kiehl’s have really good ranges for men with easy, no-nonsense products. Really warm sweaters or a good scarf are also always a good go and if you really want to be practical, think of what the man you’re buying for is interested in. If he loves a good drink, a fancy gin kit is never a bad option. Coffee lovers could enjoy, well, coffee, but also coffee accessories like a French press machine, latte spoons or nice cups. If he’s an office guy you might want to get him a voucher to get a tailored suit (or a tie, at least) or some good shoes. Briefly, keep it practical.

What will you be gifting this Christmas?
