Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery cleansing oil

You know those days when you can’t really be bothered with taking all of your makeup off… You should be bothered, though. Not taking the day off in the evening is a no-go, whatever it is that is on your face: makeup, SPF, the everyday grime of the outside world. However, this Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Oil cleanser just simply makes it a bit quicker. I got this product sent to me when it launched in the beginning of 2017 so I’ve been using it for almost a year now. Here’s my review.

What it is

A cleansing oil. Can be used either as a first cleanse (to take makeup/SPF off) in the evening or a second cleanse (skin cleanse). I guess it’s not really meant to be used in the morning, as it is branded towards being used in the evening (hence ‘midnight’).

Ingredients: https://www.kiehls.be/nl_BE/gezicht/categorie/reinigers-make-up-remover/midnight-recovery-botanical-cleansing-oil/KHL919.html (there’s no textual list but you can easily zoom in on the product image, it’s all listed on there)

Who it’s for

Everyone. I don’t think it would cause any harm to sensitive skin as it’s very gentle. Also won’t make you oilier or drier. However, like any other cleanser, make sure to rinse it off really well. Otherwise you might get the impression that it breaks you out or clogs your pores.

When I use it

I like to use the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Cleansing oil as a first cleanse in the evening to take makeup off, usually when I’m wearing a lot of it but I’m not feeling like battling it with cotton pads and micellar water.

Also, when I’m not wearing makeup or SPF, I sometimes use this as my ‘only’ cleanser in the evening.

Why I like it

  • It takes makeup and dirt off gently but quickly
  • Also good for eye makeup, not stingy and not irritating
  • Not drying
  • Filled with good ingredients – no mineral oils (those are cheap, product-filling oils that don’t really do anything beneficial for your skin) but lots of nice essential oils indeed
  • Compact and light packaging with a nice pump
  • Smells wonderful, as lavender-like as the Midnight Recovery Concentrate – so if you’re keen on that, you’ll love this one as well

What could be better

Nothing really, apart from the fact that I would really love it if they made this in a smaller, travel-friendly size and packaging as well 🙂

About Kiehl’s

If you’ve been following me for a while you probably know that I love a lot of Kiehl’s products. Their Midnight Recovery Concentrate is on rotation in my routine as good as always and I’m close to trying every single bit in their collection.

The brand today is the heritage of an apothecary founded in 1851. Kiehl’s focus on skin care and good ingredients, which I obviously love. Their range is quite big and there’s something available for any kind of concern. They also sell hair and body/shower products.

They’re part of the L’Oréal group, which makes it improbable that they will switch to cruelty-free anytime soon – pity. However, a huge green plus for me, in my low waste defence, is the fact that you can recycle your empty containers in-store and get rewarded for it with more products to try. Happy bin bag and happy me!

Kiehl’s can be bought in their own stores in several cities, online or in various independent stores like Skins Cosmetics (NL), Parfuma and Galeria Inno.
