Choosing the right cleanser for your skin type

Cleansers are lovely – they’re probably my favourite skin care product! My collection just keeps on growing, as l love trying out different formulas and discovering what works for my skin’s current condition. Because yes, there are different cleansers for different concerns. And I’m telling you all about it here. This post, combined with my favourite makeup removers for sensitive skin and my guide to cleansing, is the perfect read if you’re on the hunt for a new cleanser or if you’ve never used one before!

Gel cleansers

Perfect for: purifying oily, congested and hungover skin

Gel cleansers are lovely when you want to feel really fresh, renewed and purified. I personally prefer a gel-to-oil or gel-to-milk cleanser that doesn’t or barely foams up, like the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel. It’s my favourite type of cleanser for when my skin is feeling a bit meh and I just need something that deeply purifies and decongests, but also nourishes my skin. Foaming cleansers tend to dry me out a little too much as they strip away all your natural oils – and I really need oils.

Cream cleansers

Perfect for: gently balancing out and calming sensitive skin

I used to stay away from cream cleansers as I always thought they would block my pores or that their gentleness wouldn’t make me feel refreshed at all. Truth is, I haven’t used anything but a cream cleanser all season! The Comfort Zone Skin Regimen Cleansing Cream is divine if your skin is a bit confused – oily? dry? breakouts? oh, redness! It balances out any skin concern and very much calms down my upset, sensitive autumn skin. And all that in a super gentle, non-stripping way. Great option if cleansing everyday makes your skin a little bit irritated.

Oil cleansers

Perfect for: nourishing and balancing out any skin type

I love cleansing oils. The Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing oil is an easy choice when my skin feels a bit textured and dry. Think rough, parched spots and acne scars. A nourishing cleansing oil goes a long way then. If your skin is a little bit sensitive, oils can be great because you can find ones with fewer ingredients. Or you could go further and opt for pure jojoba oil!

Cleansing milks

Perfect for: hydrating and soothing dry and dehydrated skin

The perfect winter pick! Cleansing milks are super soft, dreamy products that give your skin a real quench – if you choose the right one. The Susanne Kaufmann Cleansing Milk and the Likami Cleansing Milk are my favourites. Whenever my skin is freaking out and feeling ultra tight due to cold weather, these ones save me massively.
